Packing for a multi-day trek on Mount Rinjani can be tricky. You will be hiking through sweltering tropical heat during the day, yet facing near-freezing temperatures at the summit before dawn. The secret to a successful climb? Layering and packing light.
At Rinjani Trekking Pro, our strong porters carry all the heavy camping equipment and food. This means you only need to carry a small daypack (usually 25L - 35L) with your personal essentials. Here is exactly what you need to bring.
What WE Provide (Do Not Bring These)
Save space in your luggage! We provide premium quality equipment to ensure your comfort on the mountain:
- ✅ Windproof and waterproof dome tents (2-3 person capacity)
- ✅ Warm, sterilized sleeping bags
- ✅ Thick sponge mattresses (approx. 6cm thick)
- ✅ Private toilet tents
- ✅ All cooking gear, dining tables, chairs, and 3x daily fresh meals
- ✅ 3 Liters of drinking water per day per person
Clothing: The Layering System
Temperatures at the summit can drop to 3°C - 5°C with strong winds. You must be prepared.
- Trekking Shirts: 2-3 moisture-wicking (dry-fit) t-shirts. Avoid cotton as it absorbs sweat and makes you cold.
- Trekking Pants: 1-2 pairs of lightweight, quick-dry trekking trousers. Shorts are okay for the first day, but pants protect against sun and insects.
- Warm Jacket: 1 Windbreaker or insulated jacket (fleece/down) specifically for the summit push and cold nights.
- Base Layers: 1 set of thermal underwear (top and bottom) for sleeping.
- Socks: 3 pairs of thick, good quality trekking socks to prevent blisters.
- Headwear & Hands: A sun hat/cap for the day, a warm beanie for the night, and a pair of warm gloves.
Essential Gear & Accessories
- Footwear: A solid pair of trekking boots or trail running shoes with excellent grip. The volcanic ash near the summit is very slippery.
- Headlamp: Absolutely mandatory for the 2:00 AM summit hike. Bring extra batteries.
- Trekking Poles: Highly recommended to save your knees on the steep descents.
- Daypack: A comfortable 25-35 Liter backpack with a rain cover.
Personal & Medical Items
- Sunscreen (SPF 50+), lip balm, and sunglasses.
- Personal medications, including painkillers (Ibuprofen), altitude sickness pills if needed, and blister plasters.
- Wet wipes and a small quick-dry towel.
- Energy bars, chocolate, or your favorite trail snacks (though we provide plenty of food!).
